Plumbojarosite (incredibly rare locality specimen) (ex Al Kidwell Collection)

Item Description

This is a remarkably rare specimen from Tsumeb, and that's saying something considering the amount of rare species found at this locality. This piece features a coverage of orange-brown colored, micro Plumbojarosite which can be seen on three sides of the specimen. In addition, there are some lovely reticulated crystals of white Cerussite measuring up to about 8 mm, and if you look closely, you'll see tiny prismatic Quartz crystals (many of which are doubly-terminated) which are coated by the Plumbojarosite. For reference, this specimen has not been analyzed to the best of our knowledge, and since Plumbojarosite forms a series with Beaverite-(Cu), it could test out differently, but in the limited photos I've seen, Beaverite-(Cu) appears to be more yellow and Plumbojarosite is more of a darker orange hue from this locality. If you collect rarities or minerals of Tsumeb, do not miss out on the chance to get your hands on something that is virtually impossible to find in today's market. From the worldwide mineral collection of Albert Lewis Kidwell (January 1, 1919 - August 16, 2008). Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. The phosphate species Kidwellite was named in his honor in 1974. The piece is also accompanied by an old label from an unknown collection, written in Dutch and English.
