Plumbogummite (excellent color)

Plumbogummite largely was not what most people considered a collectible display species for a long time. The species was first named over 200 years ago in 1819, but often was either seen in micro examples or as a secondary coating in lead deposits. Once the superb pieces from the Yangshuo Mine hit the market, everything changed. These soon-to-be classic specimens do not get enough credit for their excellent color and quality. The top pieces from this mine are arguably the best examples of the species ever found. This small cabinet sized specimen features dozens of translucent spherical / botryoidal Plumbogummite "balls" almost completely covering the entire display side of the underlying matrix. If you backlight the piece. you can see the vivid blue color come through. The largest "ball" measures 4 mm across. The piece is contacted in several spots, so it's not pristine, but pieces with color like this are becoming very hard to find on the market now, as nothing has come out of this locality for a few years.
