Plattnerite, Calcite, Hemimorphite & Hydrozincite

Item Description

A showy, rich and RARE two-sided small cabinet combination from this well-known aptly named extinct Utah Pb-Ag-Cu-Zn mine - the Hidden Treasure Mine. Patches of tiny, lustrous, brownish-black Plattnerite blades, lead oxide, are scattered amidst the dense undulating coverage of tiny, sparkly, translucent, oxide-tinted, Calcite rhombohedrons. Starkly contrasting white Hydrozincite, zinc carbonate, flanks the Calcite field. The Calcite field rolls around the gossan matrix on the bottom and up onto the back side. Much more Hydrozincite is visible along with nifty patches and vugs of glassy, colorless, Hemimorphite blades, zinc silicate. The Hydrozincite fluoresces ghostly white under LW UV light. Ex Bill and Anne Cook Collection, well-known Ohio collectors. Bill was Adjunct Curator of Mineralogy at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History for many years, and Anne was inducted into the Micromounters' Hall of Fame in 2019. The mine is well-known for numerous lead, zinc and copper species and this is a most excellent and uncommon combination.
