Item Description
VERY RARE and unusual aragonite from this less well-known Austrain locale. Pisolite ia a sedimentary rock made of pisoids, which are concretionary grains - typically of calcite or aragonite which resemble ooids, but are more than 2 mm in diameter (MINDAT). This is a striking solid mass of cream-colored pisoids, to about 4 mm. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 1111 and acquired from the Bradleys in the 1950s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). The specimen may be misidentified and be from the Karlovy Vary Region, Bohemia, Czech Republic.
