Item Description
Tourmalines from Southern California are some of the most well-known examples from anywhere in the United States. The famed Himalaya Mine in San Diego County produced iconic crystals dating back to the late 1890s, a large percentage of which were actually shipped to China for cutting and carving material. The entry on mindat.org states that his mine, "was one of the largest producers of gem and specimen-grade tourmaline in North America throughout much of the 20th century". Here we have a gorgeous, good-sized classic pink Tourmaline gem from this important locality. The stone has a "Round Cabochon" cut with a vivid bubble-gum pink hue. There are some slight inclusions, but it's important to remember that Tourmaline is classified as a "Type 3" gemstone, which means inclusions are almost always present, and accepted by dealers and collectors, and this stone is certainly above average both in terms of size and quality from this mine. A highly desirable and excellent quality gemstone that would make a fantastic center stone in a piece of jewelry, or an addition to your collection that could be paired with a crystal for a fantastic "rough and cut" set. You rarely see good gem quality Tourmalines on the market from his historic mine, so don't miss out on picking up this wonderful and alluring stone for a great price.
This stone was priced at $6,309.00 retail by the previous dealer.
