Item Description
This is by far the largest example from the small lot we received of translucent, beautiful, vivid pink precious opal from a NEW FIND at a most obscure Pisco Province, Peru locale. MINDAT lists opal for the province, with only two previously photographed examples of ours and the locality is not listed. This is a very sculptural and vuggy, especially at one end, mass, that looks great from three sides. All sides have a striking fluorescent neon-green coating of hyalite opal, that is visible and not visible under ordinary light. Beautiful and very rare pink opal from a small new find. 836 grams mass or 1.8 pounds. While we do not normally buy opal, this was too pretty to pass up, as it is a real SPECIMEN of pink opal and not the usual cleaveage fragments or rough we have seen, and so I bought a small group of these while doing a pyrite deal down in Peru. Again, what makes it novel to me is that this is an unworked specimen in the natural state - have not seen before! Valued perhaps at $1000-1500.
