Item Description
Opal is found all over the world in every color of the rainbow. It's a mineral that despite its simple chemistry is incredibly diversified in terms of color and forms. I've often said that Opal is one of the few species that looks as good when it's transparent as when it's opaque. In 2019 in the Pisco Province of the Ica Department of Peru there was an exciting new discovery of beautiful pink (and rarely lavender) Opal specimens unlike anything we've seen. This piece shows a mostly botryoidal form with a soft, flowing, almost ethereal appearance and a mix of pink and lavender tones. When exposed to SW UV light, you can see a striking fluorescent neon-green glow from a thin coating of Hyalite Opal (now called Opal-(AN)) which is only slightly visible in daylight. These seemed to have dried up fast, so don't miss out as they are not only colorful, but have a distinct visceral beauty all their own.
