Item Description

Please note: These specimens for years were labeled simply at "Andalusite", but they now are confirmed to be pseudomorphs of Pinite after Andalusite. According to the entry on mindat.org, it's quite rare to find un-pseudomorphed Andalusite from this locality. This piece is a fine example of this old classic material featuring fine, sharp, well-formed, prismatic pseudomorphs of Pinite replacing Andalusite measuring up to 5.0 cm long on matrix. The main crystal is in superb condition, and most of the smaller accessory crystals are in good shape, though a few contacts can be seen here and there. It's a great display quality specimen and one of the best that we've had to offer. Priced at $1,500 in the inventory. From the collection of Chester ("Chet") S. Lemanski Jr. of Browns Mills, New Jersey (https://www.mindat.org/user-461.html). Collection #2174CL. Chet was born 1947 in started collecting minerals circa 1957. He worked briefly as a drill runner at the famous Sterling Mine, in Ogdensburg, New Jersey and from 1987 to 1990 he helped convert the mine into a public access mining museum. He has held the role of treasurer, vice president and president of the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society (FOMS), and has been a board member and vice president of the Franklin Mineral Museum. The rare copper arsenate, Lemanskiite was named in his honor in 1999.
