Phosphosiderite, Rockbridgeite (RARE Alabama locale)

Item Description

Pretty purple to blue tiny botryoids and crusts of phosphosiderite are enticingly scattered on several sides of the vuggy, blocky small cabinet matrix. Phosphosiderite is a hydrated Fe-phosphate and specimens are VERY RARE in the Rockford Mining District, Georgia according to MINDAT. The contrasting brown matrix is fibrous Rockbridgeite, a hydroxyl Fe-Fe-phosphate and is also RARE from the District. The specimen is from an obscure locale northwest of Rockford. Ex John Whatley Collection, a well-known Georgia collector (1939-2022) and acquired in a swap with George Jordan in 1969. Showy and RARE combination phosphates from Coosa County.
