Item Description
Phosphophyllite is one of the "Holy Grails" of rare gems. The material is one of the ultimate combinations of rarity and beauty in the gem and mineral world. Virtually all of the gem quality Phosphophyllite in the world is/was found at the Unificada mine in great mountain of Cerro Rico, in the famous silver mining district of Potosi, Bolivia. The supply has dwindled to say the least over the last 60 years since the initial discovery of the mineral at this mine. The rare rough and cut set features a stone that is actually from the "old" material. This "Round Brilliant" cut stone is an attractive VVS clarity gem of this highly sought after material. It's paired up with a partially translucent, blue-green crystal fragment. The color is so well known, and very difficult to find on the market today. A worthwhile little set for any collection.
