Item Description

A good sized (3.4 cm) sharp, gemmy to translucent Phosgenite crystal is sitting on massive Galena on this old-time specimen from the famous Monteponi Mine on Sardinia. A classic specimen, and fairly good quality from the display side, despite a contact on the back of the crystal. A historic specimen from what is arguably the most famous Phosgenite locality in the world. The recent article in the Mineralogical Record details this amazing locality, and specimens like this are not common on the market. From an old East Coast collection, and it comes with a couple hand-written labels from Europe, plus an historic label from the legendary mineral dealer, Hugh A. Ford. Since the label has Ford's New York address it dates to 1946-1957. Valued at $800.
