Phosgenite (fine classic material) (fluorescent)

Item Description

A fine quality, doubly-terminated, classic, sharp, gemmy, prismatic, semi-transparent, semi-lustrous Phosgenite crystal from the old-time, famous Monteponi Mine on Sardinia. The crystal has a light sandy/smoky hue, indicative of the material. A classic and textbook specimen with only minor imperfections in a few spots due to some incomplete and slightly skeletal growth. It's almost a complete "floater" and is crystallized all over. Under longwave UV light, the piece fluoresces a yellow hue. An historic specimen from what is the most famous Phosgenite locality in the world. The article in the Mineralogical Record (Vol 45, No. 6 - 2014) details this amazing locality, and specimens like this are not common on the market. Priced at $3,500 in our inventory. The piece comes from the collection of Wouter Van Tichelen, with one of his beautiful full sheet labels and was formerly in the collection of the Renato and Adriana Pagano of Italy (the former editor of the Rivista Mineralogica Italiana).
