Item Description
A sharp, prismatic, transparent, glassy Phosgenite crystal is set on Galena matrix with a larger but less gemmy Phosgenite crystal on this attractive old-time specimen from the famous Monteponi Mine in Sardinia. The smaller crystal (despite a contact near the termination) is the better quality of the two as it's extremely gemmy and well formed, but the larger crystal (which measures 3.7 cm long) is still translucent and good sized for the material. Additionally, it's not common to see more narrow prismatic crystals of Phosgenite as the broad / short prisms are much more common. A classic and textbook specimen of this beloved lead carbonate. A historic specimen from what is arguably the most famous Phosgenite locality in the world. The recent article in the Mineralogical Record details this amazing locality, and specimens like this are not common on the market. Priced at $1200.
