Item Description

Mineral specimens are very uncommon from this obscure, old North Carolina locale. This excellent and showy, two-sided combination piece is doubly rare because it features very rare for the locale isolated phlogopite mica crystals. The mirror-bright, brownish-black, blocky "books" reach 2.1 cm and rest on a stalk of quartz matrix. Sharp, lustrous and translucent, olive-green, siderite rhombs to 7 mm on edge are festooned on the quartz and are a fine compliment to the phlogopites. North Carolina siderites are arguably considered to be the finest United States siderites and this is an excellent example. Ex Lloyd Allison Collection ; and found in the late 1950s or early 60s. Ex Dr. Ed David Collection. Ed was Science Advisor to President Nixon and has assembled several world-class mineral collections. These muscovites are considered among the most choice to own. Value of such a rarity to the locality or species collector??? Ed valued it at $750.
