Item Description

Typically when it comes to crystallized specimens of Mica from Brazil, you will find a lot of Muscovite and "Lepidolite" on the market, but fine quality examples of Phlogopite are few and far between. This piece is one of the best examples of Phlogopite that we've ever had to offer in the auctions from Brazil. It features several superb quality, very sharp, notably well-formed, rich amber-bronze colored hexagonal crystal groups measuring up to 3.7 cm across with minor attached The crystals show good internal translucency when backlit (the crystal on the lower right edge is VERY GEMMY), which is better than virtually every other Phlogopite I've seen from Brazil in the past. The piece is aesthetic, largely undamaged, and presents wonderfully as you can see from the photos. I love the fact that it's not just a single crystal, but a three-dimensional group. I don't know if this piece is from a pegmatite environment, as you typically see Phlogopite in metamorphic marble deposits. A really cool and interesting example of these incredibly hard to find Mica specimens from Brazil. From the collection of Brian Kosnar, valued at $1,400.
