Item Description
Phlogopite is a species of Mica most often found in marble deposits. Typically the crystals will be gemmier and more vivid than other species of Mica. This piece is a fantastic example from near Newcomb, New York, about 15 miles SSW of Lake Placid. This is the ONLY specimen of this material that we've ever had to offer in the auctions. It features a few groups of sharp, lustrous, well-formed, gemmy, rich golden-bronze colored hexagonal crystals of Phlogopite measuring up to 1.3 cm sitting on off-white marble matrix. When backlit, the Phlogopites GLOW with color, and one of them is virtually WATER CLEAR! A must have specimen if you collect minerals of New York, or specimens from the East Coast of the United States, or if you're just a fan of Mica. The piece comes from the collection of Gerry Morvell, with a label from a dealer that states it was part of the Magill Collection.
