Item Description

A striking and rare cluster of phantom calcite scalenohedrons from San Luis Potosi, Mexico. The glassy, transparent, dogtooth crystals have amazing and very distinctive two-toned phantoms. One face of the clay/hematite-tinted phantoms are dark gray, while the other face is preferentially tan! Gently cleaved terminations are noted to most of the larger crystals, but are certainly a very modest detraction to this striking, colorful and rare calcite varietal. Probably from the famous Charcas District, renowned for "pokerchip" calcite crystals. Ex Robert Fender Collection and dates to the 1960s or 70s or earlier.
