Item Description

Calcite is EXTREMELY RARE, and mineral specimens, in general, are very uncommon from the seven localities listed by MINDAT for this obscure Virginia area. An imposing 7.2 cm scalenohedron with a phantom is aesthetically set on the limestone matrix. Gorgeous, gemmy and lustrous golden calcite has enclosed the earlier generation of translucent white calcite. A secondary overgrowth of more golden calcite at the termination adds even more pizzazz. The striking upper portion of the crystal is pristine and the noted lower periphery wear, where other crystals once lie, is certainly acceptable in the context of this very fine 360-degree rarity from the Allen Penick Collection. A MUST for the species or locality collector.
