Item Description

This rare hydrated lead chrome carbonate was named after William Frederick Petterd, an Australian scientist and boot importer. The species is the chrome-analogue of Dundasite, and is only found in two places in the world, the Red Lead Mine in Tasmania which is the Type Locality, and from Callenberg, Germany. This is honestly the first specimen of Petterdite that I think we've had to offer. The piece features soft lilac / mauve colored micro groups of somewhat pearly Petterdite associated with reddish-orange Crocoite and minor yellow Cerussite(?) on gossan matrix. The piece is a micro specimen, but if you're a rare species collector, you can't afford to miss out on a piece of this notably hard to find material from this world famous locality. Formerly in the collection of Paolo Matioli of Brazil.
