Item Description

A classic specimen of beautifully preserved petrified wood from Arizona. This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece comes with a typed label from Wulff on one of his famous 3x5 index cards that states the piece was acquired from Tony Amshoff of Kino Rocks and Minerals in Tucson, Arizona. The label also states the locality is simply "Arizona", so I'm leaving it at that, but if there are any experts who can give us a little more insight as to where it's from, we would welcome the information. The piece shows fantasy form with in tact "rings" and a complete outer "rind"! The internal color ranges from sandy to beige to brown hues. The fron of the piece has a good polish, but oddly the back has an uneven shellac appearance.
