Item Description
A wonderful attractive piece of multi-colored, (red, bronze/golden and lavender) petrified wood from near Holbrook, Arizona. The piece is polished to better show the beautiful internal colors, which is actually cryptocrystalline Quartz, i.e., Agate. The piece has an eye-catching form, as the outer "rind" in nearly 100% in tact, and shows beautiful striations all around. It's certainly one of the better pieces we have had to offer from the area. It's rare to find a complete piece like this showing the full diameter of the trunk of the tree, an ancient species of conifer. Specimen weight is 448 grams. This piece comes from the collection of Colorado mining legend, Dave Bergman. Dave is now retired from mining, but spent many years underground, including as the foreman and primary person in charge of recovering specimens at the famous Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado during the late 1970s. He is also the maternal grandfather of Brian Kosnar. See Dave's photo mining at the Sweet Home on page 58 of Peter Bancroft's book "Gem and Crystal Treasures".
