Item Description
Oligocene-aged silicified petrified palm wood (a fossil) from the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast is well-known to fossil and mineral collectors and to the lapidiary trade. This is a classic, showy, slabbed and polished portion of a palm tree trunk or branch. The striking tube-like vascular system is readily apparent on all sides of the piece. The pretty variety of golden tones and form make for fine lapidiary material. This piece could be further slabbed or made into cabachons. The Catahoula Formation is 23-34 MYBP. Ex Consie Prince Collection. 438 grams mass or nearly a pound.
