Item Description
This piece came with a 3x5 index card that simply stated it is a "Petrified Cyprus Root Ball" from Alabama. No further information was supplied, but it's likely that this piece came from the ancient 60,000 year old forest of cypress trees that was discovered in Alabama after Hurricane Ivan blew through in 2004. We found an article online that details a bit more about the discovery of this ancient forest: https://www.al.com/news/mobile/2017/06/underwater_forest_discovered_alabama.html Specimen weight is 671 grams. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
