Item Description

A sculptural large ivory-colored cleavage block on nearly pure Petalite from this extinct deposit. Petalite is a Li-Al-silicate found only in pegmatites. The two pegmatite quarries here were mined intermittently for microcline and lithium minerals from 1929 to about 1987 (MINDAT). Formerly in the Joe Cilen Collection, according to Chet Lemanski's Collection catalogue. Joe was a well-known New Jersey collector who accumulated an over 23,000 piece collection. He passed away in 1997. Read about Joe in the Mineralogical Record Biographical Archive at: https://mineralogicalrecord.com/biographies_labels/cilenjoe/. Chet acquired the piece in 1999. Modest pinkish-white fluorescence. Seldom on the market today.
