Item Description
Please Note: This specimen is labeled as coming from "near Hernandez" (presumably the Hernandez Valley) in San Benito County, California, and while the most famous locality for Perovskite in the county is Perovskite Peak, we can't say for certain if this piece was found there. With that said, if anybody has some info as to specifically where this piece might be from, please let us know. With that said, this attractive thumbnail features a beautiful 7 mm pseudo-cubic crystal of highly lustrous, dark metallic bronze colored Perovskite proudly sitting on matrix with a small "druse" of dozens of tiny additional Perovskites on the top portion of the specimen. It is important to note that most Perovskite crystals from San Benito County average between 2-4 mm, and the fact that the main crystal is a full 7 mm is a big deal for the species and the locality. Additionally, the main Perovskite is in excellent condition with no major damage anywhere, and it exhibits the classic skeletal formations and small growth "hillocks" often seen in the species. A superb and very worthwhile thumbnail specimen of this classic material. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#3037). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020.
