Item Description
This is a lovely thumbnail specimen of Perovskite from the type locality in Russia. The species chemically is calcium titanium oxide, which was named after Count Lev Perovski, a Russian nobleman and mineral collector. Perovski served as the Minister of Internal Affairs under Nicholas I of Russia and developed an initiative to begin mining many deposits in Russia. This piece features a rather lustrous, sharp, well-formed, metallic silvery-brown colored pseudo-cubic (orthorhombic) crystal of Perovskite measuring 1.3 cm on edge sitting on minor green Clinochlore matrix. The top of Perovskite crystal is in great shape, but it's not complete on the sides where it was separated from the pocket wall. This piece formerly belonged to Herb Obodda.
