Item Description
Sugilite is a relatively rare gem, and the purple variety (Manganese rich) is only found in South Africa. In fact, before 1975 Sugilite was not known in very attractive colors, i.e., brown and yellow. Once the royal purple color material was discovered in South Africa, it really opened up the market for gemstone collectors. Nowadays, Sugilite is not seen on the open market very much, and it's a shame because the color is amazingly distinctive and intense. This one-of-a-kind Sterling Silver pendant was designed and built by Brett Kosnar in November of 2010, and features a very rich purple color, "Diamond Cabochon" cut Sugilite gem. When you flip the piece over, you can see Brett's signature near the top. The piece is solid and sturdy, and the bale is wide enough for a very thick chain. Most rare gems are not exceptionally colorful, and there are not many purple gems on the market, so this is certainly a unique piece from the aspect of rarity and color. To top it off, I haven't seem much in the way of Sugilite jewelry on the market, so this would be a great opportunity pick up something that most women don't have in their jewelry collections.
