Item Description
Larimar is the trade name that is designated to the light blue, massive pectolite from the Dominican Republic. The material is typically opaque, but sometimes slightly translucent. The actual name "Larimar" is a combination of "Larissa", which was the name of the daughter of Dominican geologist, Miguel Mendez who originally named the material, and "Mar", which is the Spanish word for sea, as it resembles the crystal blue Caribbean Sea. This polished end slice is an attractive Larimar and has beautiful blue surrounding the vuggy core. This material is only found in one place in the world, and is becoming increasingly popular among collectors, jewelers and dealers. 253 grams. Ex Wallace Bates Collection.
