Item Description

The Millington Quarry in the New Jersey trap rocks opened originally in 1895, and only closed a few years ago. It didn't operating continuously during its existence, and in the late 1970's the quarry reopened and started producing a large number of some of the most interesting and beloved specimens from this incredible Trap Rock locality. I think it's safe to say that the greatest claim to fame for this locality is the spectacular Pectolite specimens, which are found in wide range of colors, including highly desirable pink examples. This particular pieces hosts several classic radiating spherical aggregates of Pectolite measuring up to 1.7 cm across with minor Calcite on matrix. Most of the spheres featuring a rarely seen pink shade! This locality produced the finest pink Pectolite in the world (some of which are saturated enough to be called RED), and these are quite possibly the best pink Pectolites in the world. Now that the mineralized zone at Millington is finished, you will not see any more of these beautiful specimens on the market. A great Trap Rock display specimen from this significant New Jersey locality. Ex Richard Rossi Collection. From the collection Gerry Morvell.
