Item Description
Pectolite is EXTREMELY RARE from this long abandoned quarry in serpentine. Striking intergrown starbursts of highly chatoyant, cream-colored pectolite lathes richly and dramatically cover the sculptural large plate of dense, greenish-black serpentine. Pectolite is the calcium analogue of Serandite and is a member of the Wollastonite Group. It is found in both igneous and metamorphic terranes, including serpentinites. MINDAT does NOT list Pectolite for the locale, nor are there any photos in the locality gallery. Formerly in the collection of Dick Grier, Sr. of Dundalk, Maryland. Ex George Loud Collection No. 8784. George is a well-known South Carolina and Washington D.C. collector. We recently acquired most of his impressive 9000+ piece collection. See: https://mineralogicalrecord.com/biographies_labels/george-loud for more information. Rare, perhaps UNIQUE material from the locale.
