Item Description

Pretty tea-green, translucent, pectolite balls fill the cavity in the striking tapered horn-of-plenty shaped sculptural basalt matrix. The imposing large ball is 1.6 cm across. Preferential peppering of tiny oxide-coated pyrite crystals is an exotic and and uncommon accessory. The shimmering chatoyant broken balls on the periphery reveal the radial growth of the acicular pectolite. This famous Trap Rock quarry opened in 1895 and closed in 2007. "The mineralized zone has now been removed, and the pit is currently being refilled with trucked in rock and dirt, for a future housing development." (MINDAT). Ex Chet Lemanski Collection.
