Item Description
The now closed Jeffrey Mine in Quebec was truly one of the greatest localities in not only Canada, but the world. In addition to the some of the world's best Garnets and Vesuvianite crystals, the Jeffrey Mine in Canada can lay claim to some of the finest Pectolite crystals found. These well-formed clusters of bladed to tabular Pectolite crystals have excellent luster, good gemminess, and are a soft shade of green. The largest crystals on this piece measures 1.2 cm, which is very good for the species and the locality. The white to gray matrix has moderate fluorescence, though I am not quite sure exactly what its composition is. This piece likely dates to the 1970s or early 1980s. A fine specimen from this famous mine.
From the collection of Richard ("Rich") A. Kosnar (1946-2007), the well-known mineral dealer and collector from Colorado, who personally collected specimens at the Jeffrey Mine in the 1960s. Rich was the namesake for the rare zirconium phosphate species, Kosnarite.
