Item Description
The Millington Quarry in northern New Jersey is now closed, but it existed for over 100 years (it opened in 1895), and despite being closed for a time, it was reopened in the 1970s and produced some of the memorable mineral specimens from any quarry in the New Jersey trap rocks. This locality is not only renowned among local collectors, but it is well-known worldwide for producing some of the most beautiful and fine quality crystallized examples of Pectolite ever found. What makes these pieces so desirable is that they actually can be colorful, which is not often seen in Pectolite. This particular pieces hosts a predominant radiating spherical aggregate of pastel pink Pectolite sitting on very pale green colored (virtually white) Datolite on basalt matrix. The Pectolite "ball" measures 1.7 cm across, which is decent sized for the locality and the material in general. The key aspect of this piece is the fact that the sphere is COMPLETE and unbroken, which is a big deal because most Pectolites you'll see from this locality feature spheres that are broken in some way along their edges. I You will not see any more of these beautiful specimens on the market anymore, so get them while you can. These are some of the finest crystallized examples of Pectolite in the world. From the collection of Gerry Morvell.
