Item Description

The famous Millington Quarry in New Jersey, sadly closed a few years ago. This well-known locality existed for over 100 years (it opened in 1895). Starting in the late 1970's the quarry reopened and started producing a large number of some of the most interesting and beloved specimens from this incredible quarry. This is one of the most famous trap rock quarries in New Jersey and it perhaps its greatest claim to fame are its spectacular Pectolite specimens, along with some impressive Prehnites. This particular pieces hosts several radiating spherical aggregates of pastel beige Pectolite. The largest "ball" measures 2.6 cm across, which is very good sized for the locality and the material in general. The key aspect of this piece is the fact that there are some COMPLETE unbroken spheres, as most Pectolites you'll see from this locality are broken in some way along their edges. You will not see any more of these beautiful specimens on the market anymore, so get them while you can. These are some of the finest crystallized examples of Pectolite in the world. From the collection of Chester ("Chet") S. Lemanski Jr. of Browns Mills, New Jersey (https://www.mindat.org/user-461.html). Collection #2034CL. Chet was born 1947 in started collecting minerals circa 1957. He worked briefly as a drill runner at the famous Sterling Mine, in Ogdensburg, New Jersey and from 1987 to 1990 he helped convert the mine into a public access mining museum. He has held the role of treasurer, vice president and president of the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society (FOMS), and has been a board member and vice president of the Franklin Mineral Museum. The rare copper arsenate, Lemanskiite was named in his honor in 1999.
