Item Description

An incredibly rare specimen of Pecoraite from the Rentzschmühle Quarry in Germany. This is the ONLY specimen we've ever seen from this locality, and it's notably rich with deep green Pecoraite covering the display side of the matrix. The green color is due to nickel content as Pecoraite is a rare nickel silicate mineral, similar to Népouite or Willemseite. If you collect rarities, this is something that you're not likely to find anywhere else, and it's the only example we have to offer so don't miss out. For reference, Pecoraite was named in honor of William Pecora II was the former director of the US Geological Survey from 1965 to 1971. It seemed only apropos that Pecora's study of nickel silicate deposits allowed for a nickel silicate mineral to be named in his honor.
From the collection of Colin Manlove.
