Item Description
A very rare seen crystal of Parisite-(Ce) from the famous Narssârssuk pegmatite in Greenland, which is the type locality for 13 mineral, including many well-known rare-earth species. Parisite was named after J.J. Paris, who was the manager of the Muzo Emerald Mine in Columbia, where the species was first discovered (before it was split into Parisite-(Ce), Parisite-(Nd) and Parisite-(La). This piece is a sharp, well-formed, pseudo-hexagonal, "barrel"-shaped crystal, free of matrix. With backlighting, the piece shows a bit of translucency, with a rich golden-brown hue. These are incredibly hard to find on the market, you'll only seen them in old established diverse collections such as this.
From the collection of the beloved mineral dealer and collector Rock H. Currier (1940-2015) who was the long-time owner of Jewel Tunnel Imports. Collection #784. Rock travelled the world in search of mineral specimens, and built and impressive collection over his lifetime. He was one of the more colorful and unforgettable figures in the mineral world.
