Item Description
This is a top-quality, small cabinet specimen of Paravauxite, an extremely rare iron and aluminum phosphate, with sharp crystals and from the type locality. The sharp, distinct, bladed crystal are excellent, abundant, and range up to 1.1 cm in size. Not only that, but the Siglo Mine is the premier locality for the species, and the TYPE LOCALITY. This particular specimen is composed of a numerous, bladed crystals with a blue-white tint and an appealing habit in which the blades expand wider as the crystal grew. Much of the finest material likely dates to the 1960s or before, with the mine having been opened from 1901; although most minerals only came to worldwide colelctors through the later efforts of LA County Museum patron and field collector Mark Bandy. From the extensive collection of Bob Reynolds, who cherished both minerals and fossils as he collected. Bob is a prolific author and has had several curating positions in museums. This is a large, dramatic specimen of reasonable quality and value for this rare species, valued $1500.
