Item Description
Paravauxite is a rare hydrated Fe-Al-phosphate and the famous Siglo XX Mine is the Type Locality. Glassy, translucent, striated light green with yellow areas flattened prisms, to 1.5 cm, are richly strewn on the sculptural large matrix plate on this classic old-time specimen. The mine easily produced the finest examples of the species. Ex Rock Currier Collection No. 581 and acquired from well-known California collector Marion Godshaw in 1965 for $125 (expensive!). Rock (1940-2015) is one of the most prominent mineral dealers and well-known author and lecturer of this era. His worldwide exploits obtaining mineral specimens are legendary. These turn up on the market today, occasionally - but a plate such as this could easily be valued $1500-2000.
