Item Description
Paravauxite a rare hydrated iron aluminum phosphate that is found in less than 20 localities around the world. The best examples of the species are those from the type locality, the famous Siglo XX Mine in Llallagua, Bolivia. This specimen is a great example of this famous material featuring dozens of beautiful, sharp, lustrous, gemmy / translucent, thin, prismatic crystals of a soft greenish color covering the underlying host rock matrix. There are some tan spots on some of the crystals where they appear to be altering to the species Sigloite. The largest Paravauxite measures 1.2 cm long. Very little damage, and really good quality for this well-known but hard to find phosphate species. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered. The piece comes with a label from the Lloyd Tate collection and a couple dealer's labels.
