Item Description

A rarely seen specimen of Parahopeite from Reaphook Hill in the Flinders Ranges of South Australia. This piece is filled with attractive off-white colored, thin bladed crystals of Parahopeite measuring up to 5 mm on oxidized matrix. This locality is famous for its excellent Scholzite specimens, but the Parahopeite specimens are few and far between. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
