Paragsite (gemmy)

Item Description

A notably GEMMY and fairly sharp crystal of Pargasite from the same area that produced the famous Tanzanite crystals. Typically Pargasite crystals are not transparent, except for very small examples. The piece is over 1 cm and shows excellent golden-brown color in one direction - the "a" axis - with a bit of pleochroism as the color changes to a slight greenish-yellow hue when rotated on the "b" axis. It's gemmy enough that it can be faceted into a stone, but why would you since it's so hard to find transparent examples of this species, especially with such a pleasing color.
