Item Description

A very rare specimen of the Mn analogue of Chloritoid, Ottrelite from the type locality in Belgium. This miniature sized specimen features dozens of small (about 1 mm) crystals of dark greenish-grey (nearly black) colored monoclinic crystals partially frozen into medium grey colored phyllite host rock. We have photographed the crystals with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. If you collect rare species, or minerals from the type locality, do not miss out on this one as specimens of Ottrelite are incredibly difficult to find on the market. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
