Item Description

A single large twinned crystal of Orthoclase var. Adularia from the Morro Redondo Mine in Brazil, with literally porcelain-like surfaces. This large, attractive and commanding twinned crystal measures 10 cm in its largest dimension! The piece is sharply geometrical and is bright white to bone-white in color. In actuality, there looks to be two sets of twins with a slightly smaller set atop the larger set of twins! There are a couple of unusual things about this piece: 1) the occurrence of Adularia in granite pegmatite is not common, and 2) the type of twinning displayed here is the Manebach type which is rare in Feldspars and this is a very large example of this twin type...from a pegmatite! The matrix of this handsome piece is a partial, 6 cm rosette of translucent Albite var. Cleavelandite upon which the twin was perched in the pocket. There is a dusting of silvery-green Muscovite in one area. This is an excellent, and large, example of a Manebach twinned Adularia crystal from Brazil!
