Item Description

Here we have an antique specimen of Orthoclase labeled as only coming from "Greenland". The piece is accompanied by a beautiful hand-written label is well over 100 years old from an undisclosed collection. The specimen has a beige to brown-grey hue and although it isn't terribly flashy (it's contacted on a few sides), it does show bright reflective luster on the front and back. This value in this specimen lies in the fantastic old label, which honestly has more worth than the specimen. From the worldwide mineral collection of Albert Lewis Kidwell (January 1, 1919 - August 16, 2008). Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. The phosphate species Kidwellite was named in his honor in 1974.
