Item Description
A notably hard to find matrix display specimen of Carlsbad-twinned Orthoclase labeled as coming from the Finsteres Loch, Thuringia, Germany. According to the entry on Wikipedia, this area is a, The "densely wooded rocky gorge with a small waterfall in the upper part of the Schortetal in the Thuringian Forest. It is located about 1.5 km southeast of Stützerbach in the Ilm district, and the Goethe hiking trail Ilmenau-Stützerbach passes by". This is certainly the only specimen we've ever had to offer from the locality. This small cabinet sized piece hosts a fairly sharp, well-formed, doubly-terminated twin measuring 3.7 cm long, of a lovely gentle pinkish hue, aesthetically perched on matrix. A really cool rare locality piece for any fan of Feldspar or twinned crystals, or if you're a hardcore German mineral locality collector, I'll bet you don't have one of these in your collection.
