Item Description

This is a classic Orthoceras fossil from Morocco. These are the most well-known examples of this material on the market. These fossils date back to the Devonian Period (370 million years ago). The name Orthoceras (sometimes spelled Orthocera, Orthocerus or Orthoceros) means "straight horn" and refers to an extinct nautiloid cephalopod, similar to Baculites. This piece is a great example of this beautiful material featuring a few beautifully well-preserved Orthoceras fossils measuring up to 15.7 cm long in matrix. The outer portion of the fossils have been polished to better show off the distinct body chambers.
