Orpiment (superb quality crystals)

Among the finest crystallized specimens of Orpiment in the world are those from the Twin Creeks Mine in Nevada. These superb crystals not only show some of the brightest orange hues seen in the species, but when you combine it with excellent crystallization, luster and gemminess, you truly have something special. For years, these specimens used to have a strange reputation for turning "brown", but the specimens mined by CE have never oxidized / tarnished and have not lost their color. It should be noted that the piece should not be exposed to sunlight, and kept out of direct light as much as possible to avoid it changing color. This particular specimen is one of the best Orpiments that we've had to offer from this mine in recent months/years and features fantastic sharp, well-formed, monoclinic crystals with glistening luster, good internal gemminess and that fiery orange color. It's hard to isolated single crystals, but after a few minutes, I found the largest individual crystal measures about 6 mm. Priced in the inventory at $3,500. From the collection of Colin Manlove.
