Item Description
Gorgeous, gemmy and lustrous burnt-orange Orpiment crystals form a very aesthetic crust of rather large crystals from the Quiruvilca Mine of Peru. These are large crystals averaging 1 cm and up to 1.5 cm and they display striking yellow highlights and sharp chisel terminations. There must be at least 40 crystals on this piece, some standing straight up off the Pyrite matrix and other reclined on the surface or at a shallow angle. Pieces of this quality came out during the 1970s until 1981 with none since. The Orpiment crystals are in very good condition with some crystals showing minor yellow colored bruising. A great piece on an unusual matrix for the find.
