Orpiment on Galena (excellent specimen)

Item Description

I can say without fear of contradiction that this is the best specimen of this particular material that I've ever seen. This robust cabinet sized display piece features multiple, large, sharp, well-formed, silvery-grey colored cuboctahedral crystals of Galena measuring up to 4.0 cm across which are dotted by beautiful burnt-orange colored spherical groups of Orpiment sitting atop Quartz and host rock matrix. The piece is in superb condition, as all of the main crystals are undamaged, and the only roughness is around the periphery where it was removed from the pocket wall. I've never seen a specimen of this size, with such large, fine Galena crystals and a beautiful coverage of Orpiment like this from the Palomo Mine. VERY few of these were found, and to have a piece of this size and quality is outstanding. I can only think of two places in the world where Orpiment is found on Galena like this, Peru and Romania, and I've only seen a handful of those specimens from either locality. Priced at $2,000 in our inventory. A must have for any fan of sulfides or minerals of Peru.
