Item Description

The iconic Orpiment specimens from the El'brusskiy Mine in Russia are some of the most distinctive and eye-catching examples of the species that you'll ever see. This piece is a wonderful small cabinet sized piece these beautiful specimens featuring dozens of small, strong orange colored Orpiment crystals measuring up to about 6 mm, sitting on a layer of off-white colored Dolomite. The crystals look fantastic under magnification, as they are not only textbook in their form, but some of them are intergrown to create beautiful "fan"-shaped groups. We've taken some micro/macro photos to better illustrate them. It's not common to find so many isolated crystals/groups like this from the El'brusskiy Mine, as the Orpiments are often tightly intergrown, and often completely covering the underlying matrix.
From the collection of Brian Kosnar.
